Abilities

Most of these skills are very broad. This is on purpose. Skills in boldface must have a specialty named: for instance, Craft/Blacksmith is a great skill, but it doesn't allow you to fill in for Alton Brown on Good Eats, which requires Craft/Cooking.

All abilities are ranked 0 to 5. If you have a normal human-level understanding of a subject, you do not need to add it to your sheet. Your background should reflect your chosen abilities.

All other skills may have specialties named. If you have an applicable specialty, you may add a +1 to your final roll.

Powers

Powers something that makes shifters and vampires unique individuals. A point within each power allows you to take and use that power in your RP. However, your access to Powers is limited according to what kind of preternatural you are, and your power level within that community.

Your background should reflect your powers. Bear in mind that nobody is good at everything.

Shapeshifters

Shapeshifters get a base "power pack" according to their species. These are the powers that a a player would need to replicate a shifter PC on SinCity. They are automatically added to your sheet in chargen.

Common Abilities for all Races

  • Heal Others (Rare)

Shifters move fast. Some can move very, very fast. Heightened Speed allows shifters to move at bursts of accelerated speeds of up to 60-70mph for short distances. They will be very hungry afterwards.

Silver Tolerance does not reduce damage a shifter takes from silver. It only reduces the amount of incapacitation a shifter suffers from being in contact with silver. On rare occasions, you may see shifters wearing silver jewelry — in effect advertising to the world, "this hurts me, but I remain functional, and maybe you'd better think twice about messing with me." Wearing silver in effect tells the world you are a tougher Shifter than others.

Shapeshifting is the sort of thing that can be done in a hurry, but is best done slowly. Rapid Shapeshift allows the PC to shift with lesser damage to life force as a result. Please see Shapeshifter FAQ's for the consequences of rapid shifts.

Heal Others is the ability to share some of your abundant life force with other shifters and maybe even humans as well. Humans will have side effects— ask Staff for details on this. This is a rare and valuable skill.

Cat-specific Abilities

  • Fascinate

Fascinate is in effect a low-grade form of domination. While a Leader can dominate another into acting in a variety of different ways, any werecat can choose to Fascinate someone: to seize their attention, to be the focus of the room. This does not require the Fascinated people to be favorably inclined to the werecat (although many of them are, mistaking the Fascination for a sincere emotion on their part), and in fact people may be annoyed once the effect wears off.

Wolf-specific Abilities

  • Intimidate

Intimidation is a big part of pack politics. Leaders need to be especially skilled in Intimidation and other powers. This can be described as a feeling of being "outclassed" that happens, as if someone scary just entered the room. PCs will be able to roll against it.

Rat-specific Abilities

  • Guanxi
  • Resist Domination

Rats live in communitarian societies where the pecking order is more fluid and loose. Cats and wolves settle a lot of disputes via faceoff and domination — but as often as not, rats will just yawn and laugh at the attempt.

Rat domination is done by appeals to complex social agreements called guanxi. Since you know a rat who knows a rat who in turn has blackmail on another rat, and since the rat you're talking to wants that other rat to prosper, the rat you're talking to wants things to go your way. Guanxi is a Chinese word representing a web of obligations and agreements, where pulling on one strand can have effects in far-distant places. The rats, due to their communitarian nature, are masters of guanxi.

Vampire-Specific Abilities

Vampires get a "power pack" of basic powers we think you will need to roleplay a vampire on SinCity. These include Enhanced Speed, Enhanced Strength, Night Vision, Regeneration and Cause Vice. Cause Vice will be the vice of your vampire's family. Vampires are given points on a scale according to age. Ask Staff for more details. Great age is not necessarily better here.

Alternate Feeding is feeding from ambient life-force in emotionally charged situations (of your vice only) -this will not feed you but might get you by. This is skill learned over time with practice. Influence is like Intimidate in wolves. Enthrall is a skill all vampires have but some do better than others, and with more finesse. Share Blood is the ability to feed another vampire from your blood — gluttony vampires are very good at this power. Increased speed and strength are assumed in all vampires, but will be based off of Ability scores.

Control Beasts is a skill where influence can be extended to a specific type of animal and perhaps even shifter. This is a rare talent, and makes the vampire both powerful and dangerous. Players will need to state their species choice at time of application and have it approved (and a +cnote added).
